Revitalized Medvedev Secures Maiden Championship in Over Two Years
Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt
A resurgent Medvedev won his initial championship for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.
The athlete, a former world number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.
His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-term trainer Cervara.
Currently working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.
This represents his maiden title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface after that period of 2023.
The win also means Medvedev has secured 21 victories at 21 various events.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to win a championship is really nice," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.
The player's counter-punching approach and regular outbursts on court had caused observers to question if his skill to play at the highest level was finished.
But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an better serving game.
He came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.
Both players exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a third set.
The opponent rescued four initial break points in a close final set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.
Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
